Wired doorbells are more traditional compared with the wireless option, they typically work via a doorbell transformer connected to a power source. While wireless doorbells rely on batteries and transmit the signal from a button press via radio waves to a receiver that emits the sound.
A wired doorbell has three main parts: the bell push, the chime, and the transformer that connects the bell push and the chime. So how they work? The operation of a wired mechanical doorbell relies on two solenoids connected to the doorbell button. When the button is pressed, the current flows through the circuit to activate the solenoids, generating a magnetic field, attracting the piston in the coil to move downward, hitting the lower resonator, then producing the first note "Ding". Upon releasing the button, the current is interrupted, the magnetic field disappears, and the spring quickly resets the piston and hits the upper resonator, producing the second note "Dong"(see the diagram below). Some door bells use a small barrier to prevent one of the solenoids' pistons from hitting the upper resonator, in this way to distinguish the front door and the back door bell—the former emits two-note "Ding Dong", while the latter’s a single note.
Advent Mechanical Wired Doorbell Chime products have 4 power supply and wiring methods, including directly connected to 220V AC, external 8/12V transformer, wired mechanical doorbell built-in transformer, and built-in 1*9V battery. These wired doorbells are intended for indoor use. The chime can be connected to a wired bell push/bell switch or a illuminated bell push. How to install the Ding Dong Mechanical Door Bell Chime?
Before installation, make sure to turn off the power to the doorbell system to avoid injury when wiring.
1. Open the Front Cover using a flat screwdriver at two points at the side of the chime.
2. Drill four holes by using the Base Housing as the template and mount the Base Housing on the wall using the screw fixing kits provided.
3. Use insulated and sheathed cable rated for use on mains supply voltage.
4. Ensure the cable sheath enters the chime base.
5. Each terminal is capable of accommodating single wire with cross-sectional area from 0.75 to 2.5mm²(stranded or single core wires).
6. Strip the insulator of the wire according to the prescribed length marked on the product.
7. Only connect the push button/bell switch across terminal A and B of the chime. DO NOT connect the push button or bell switch into the 220-240V supply (terminal C & D).
8. Check the illuminated push rating before connecting to the doorbell.
Unlike traditional wireless doorbells, Mechanical Ding Dong Wired doorbell does not have complicated ringtone selections, eliminating the trouble of picking a ringtone. Also, it doesn’t require regular battery replacement like those battery-operated doorbells. Wired Ding Dong Bell offers a variety of styles to choose from, with their classic, simple and atmospheric appearance, showing a lasting beauty.
